Thomas "Tommy" Edward Cyrus

Thomas “Tommy” Edward Cyrus, Sr. of Appomattox passed away Friday, September 19, 2025, at home, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife Mildred Giles Cyrus for 34 years.
Born in Halifax, Va on May 5, 1934, he was the son of the late Claude and Nora Cyrus. Tommy was a founding member of Calvary Cross Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA. He served as a Senior Deacon, a member of the Finance Committee and was a faithful member for over fifty years. Tommy was the owner of Cyrus Pest Control. He owned several antique cars, enjoyed Nascar racing and loved his many trips to Myrtle Beach.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Danny and Tommy, Jr. and one daughter Teresa Williams; three step-daughters, Doris Hackett, Sue O’Brien (Calvin), and Janice Coleman (Ricky); eight grandchildren, Jennifer Williams, Brittany, David, Jr., Matthew, Michael, James, Robert and Dawn; seven step-grandchildren, Lorie Carwile, Brad O’Brien, Tara Nelson, Jody Hackett, Jamie Bryan, Krista King, and Andrew Coleman; and many great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife Joyce Cyrus, two sons WT and David Cyrus, two brothers Harold and CW Cyrus, and one sister Lovey Dunn.
A funeral service will be held at 11am, on Wednesday, September 24 at Calvary Cross Baptist Church, 1700 James Street, Lynchburg, officiated by Pastor Wayne Hudson. Burial will be at 12:30 pm in Fort Hill Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church and at other times at the residence in Appomattox.
