Maurice Lee Brown, Sr.
Maurice L. Brown, Sr., 89, of Phenix, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on March 8 at 12:50 a.m., with his wife by his side.
Maurice was born December 8, 1936, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Marion Lee Brown and Alice Blanche (McChristy) Brown.
Maurice proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War era, spending over twenty years in service working in electronics and aircraft maintenance aboard naval vessels and at Naval Air Stations before retiring from the Fleet Reserve in 1978.
Even later in life, Maurice and his beloved wife, Helen, whom he married in 1969, maintained a spirit of adventure. In 2005, the two traveled across the country together by RV.
Maurice will be remembered as a man of deep faith, unwavering honesty, and devotion to family.
He was preceded in death by his brother Donald Leroy Brown; his sister, Janelle Marie Brown; and his granddaughter, Tiffany Bapties daughter of Dwaine and Susan Bapties.
In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by his children, Maurice Brown, Jr. and Shelia, Raymond and Teresa Brown, and John and Susan Bapties, Dwaine and Susan Bapties, Denise Ross, and Tina and Ken Swanson; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
Maurice will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Helen Brown, his children, grandchildren, extended family, and all who knew and loved him.
A graveside service will be held 2pm, Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Journeys End Cemetery, Phenix, VA.
