Robert Morell Canada
Robert “Bobby” Morell Canada, 94, of Phenix, VA, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at his home. He was the loving husband of Doris Austin Canada for almost 69 years.
Born in Virginia, on July 25, 1931, he was the son of the late Mamie Elliott Canada and John “Donald” Canada. Bobby worked for Select Sires, artificially breeding cows for 57 years.
A man known by many names—husband, daddy, granddaddy and great granddaddy—he wore each one with tremendous pride.
He loved his wife, Doris deeply; she was truly the love of his life. Together they built a family legacy of loyalty and love. His family was his greatest joy and he made sure they always knew they were loved and how lucky he was to have them.
He found peace in farming and working the land, a place where hard work and patience turned into something meaningful. Whether it was a broken fence, a leaky pipe, or something that just needed fixing, he was the one everyone could count on. If it was broken, he would find a way to make it work.
His dedication didn’t stop at home. As the town’s water manager, he took pride in serving his community and making sure things ran the way they should. He believed in working hard and taking care of the people around him. One of the many ways he gave back was helping build the Phenix Pool, creating a place where families and children could gather, laugh, and make memories.
He lived a simple life that revolved around family, his cows, and helping others. The legacy he leaves behind is not only in the things he built or fixed, but in his love for his wife, family, and community.
He will always be remembered as a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and showed up wherever and whenever he was needed.
He is survived by four children, Donna Tucker and husband, Ricky, Cheryl Hill and husband, David, Jeff Canada and wife, Linda, and Robbie Canada and wife, Tammy; eight grandchildren, Jay Tucker and Brandy, Brandon Tucker and Carmen, Craig Tucker and Tasha, Derrick Canada and Kaysey, Alicia Hall and John, Daniel Hill and Kathryn, Dustin Hill and Ainsley, Bryan Canada and Whitney; 21 great-grandchildren, Dominik Raney, Gabby Hall, Lincoln Raney, Kariann Tucker, Caiden Tucker, Kaylinn Tucker, Isaac Hall, Addison Canada, Raegan Tucker, Charlie Hill, Jace Canada, Chloe Tucker, Ethan Hall, Collyns Clowdis, Tyrus Tucker, Abigail Hill, Caroline Hill, Hunter Hill, Corbin Hill, Bristol Canada, and Emerson Canada; one brother, John D. Canada and wife, Ann; one brother-in-law, Jesse Ellington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Myrtle C. Ellington.
A funeral will be held at 10 am, on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Phenix Presbyterian Church officiated by Pastor Garry Sims and Pastor Herndon Jeffreys. Burial will follow in Rough Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
