Hazel Combs White

June 13, 1919 - February 26, 2020

Hazel Combs White, age 100, passed away peacefully from this world into the open arms of Jesus on February 26, 2020 at Snyder Nursing Home in Salem, Virginia. She was also welcomed into the arms of her loving husband of 52 years Charlie Carr White, her beloved son Glenn Lee White, her parents Luke Harvey and Cliffie Ola Epperly Combs, and all of her brothers and sisters including Virginia, Alma, Thelma, James, Ellis and Elbert.

Hazel was born in Montgomery County and attended school in Glade Hill and Salem. She was employed at Valleydale Meat Packers and also White's Restaurant where she worked alongside her husband cooking and operating the grocery store. She was a charter member of Calvary Baptist church in Salem where she faithfully served for over 70 years. She sang in the church choir until she was 93 years young and had read completely through her Bible several times. She loved the Lord and was a Godly example to her family and all who knew her. Hazel had a sharp mind throughout her life and loved to laugh. She was a fun loving little lady with a huge heart that loved and gave unconditionally. She enjoyed serving others and helped when she saw a need. More than anything else, she prayed that her family and friends would know and love the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior like she did. She was a priceless treasure who forever changed all our lives for the better.

Our Mama, Grandma, and Gigi (great-grandmother) will live forever in our hearts. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Ann Kirby (Ray), son Dennis White (Joan), and daughter-in-law Debbie White (son Glenn), 8 grandchildren (Stacie, Kevin, Jennifer, Holly, Allison, Ellen, Amanda, and Cathryn), 19 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express our sincerest appreciation to the staff and all those who lovingly cared for our mother and grandmother during the time she made her home at Snyder Nursing Home and J. C. Thomas Center. A special thank you goes to Pastor Roger Counts, Linda, Ruby, Loretta, Pastor Gary, and her many other friends and church friends who dedicated their time to visit our mother often. She loved you so much that you became her family, too.

The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home, 1330 East Main Street, Salem, on Saturday, February 29 at 10 a.m. with a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
