Gwendolyn "Gwen" McCormick Moses

May 19, 1950 - June 2, 2020

Gwendolyn “Gwen” McCormick Moses gained her wings and went to walk with angels on June 2, 2020. She passed away peacefully with family by her side.

Born in Lynchburg, May, 19, 1950, she was a daughter of the late Evelyn Louise Honaker. Gwen loved to cook, sew and kept an immaculate house. Most of all she loved her family, her grandchildren were her treasures and she was an exceptional mother and grandmother. She instilled a strong work ethic and family values that have served them well. She was the “glue” that kept everyone together. She was the best “nanny” anyone could ask for. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. She leaves us behind with many beautiful memories.

She is survived by two children, Ricky W. Burnley and Sheila B. Copley which she shared with her loving first husband, the late Herman H. Burnley. She is also survived by a cherished daughter-in-law, Chrissy Burnley; son-in-law, Chris Copley; five grandchildren, Ricky W. Burnley, II and wife, Ashley, Herman R. Burnley and wife, Jennifer, Colton H. Copley, Caylen A. Copley, Ceagan “Bam” Copley; three great-grandchildren, Logan Burnley, Callie Burnley and Christian Burnley; sister, Marcia Bryant and husband, Bernard; a brother, Mark Honaker and was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin “Buddy” Honaker; special aunt, Peggy Robinson; uncle, Floyd “Littleman” McCormick; dear cousin, Beverly Adams; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her second husband John D. Moses.

A funeral service officiated by Pastor Earl Ragland and Pastor Harold Powers will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, June 6, 2020, at Maple Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, 5604 Meadow Creek Rd., Wingina, VA. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive family and friends at the church on Friday, June 5, 2020, from 6 until 8 p.m.

Her famous saying was “The good Lord is going to take you when he’s ready for you.”
