Richard W. Woodward, born on April 26th, 1936, in Remington, VA, departed this life on August 31, 2020. He was eighty four years of age. He leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Viola J. Woodward, his four children; Steven A. Woodward, Gary F. Woodward, Pamela S. Irby, and Kenneth M. Woodward, his twelve grandchildren, and his eighteen great grandchildren.

Richard had a very adventurous and ambitious career path in law enforcement. His first job before marrying Viola was a fingerprint clerk in Washington DC. He then spent five years as a Virginia State Trooper, and during this time was an officer on the scene of Hurricane Camille in Nelson County. Richard then went on to become an ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms) Agent, where he spent many years investigating pipe bombs, bomb threats, and moonshine stills. He was always willing to tell you a story or two about that! He retired twenty three years ago.

Richard always loved music, and had the ability to play the guitar, the mandolin, the banjo and the harmonica. He loved bluegrass and spent a great deal of time writing songs. He was an impeccable wood worker, and could create just about anything in his workshop. He loved to garden, and took great pride in his home, lawn and tomato patch. He was an active member of Leesville Road Baptist Church for many years, and love his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his church family. He was very loved by many, and will be missed more than words can explain.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10 AM on Friday, September 4, 2020 at Leesville Road Baptist Church and a funeral service will follow at 11 AM with Rev. Kevin Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
