Barbara Jean Griggs

Barbara Jean Griggs, 69, of Martinsville, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2020, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born on September 13, 1951, in Martinsville, to the late George Washington Griggs and the late Pauline Virginia Smith Griggs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lula (Peggy) Griggs Moyer; brothers, George “Bud”, Walter “Topsy”, and Roosevelt “Pat” Griggs; and a nephew who was more like a son, Spencer O. Moyer.

Ms. Griggs graduated from Henry County Public Schools. She had been barbering for 46 years and later in years became owner of Progressive Barbershop. She was of the Holiness faith. She enjoyed traveling, and hanging out with friends, and was a stranger to nobody. She liked softball, tennis, and cooking, and she was mother to many children in her community.

She is survived by her niece, Ophelia Griggs who was more like a daughter, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral will be Thursday, October 1, 2020, at 11:30 AM, at Refuge Temple Ministries with Elder Alan Preston officiating, and visitation 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park. Also, a floating visitation will be on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.
