George R. "G.R." Jones, Jr.

George R. Jones, Jr., 96, of Salem, and originally of Pembroke, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at Elmcroft of Chesterfield Assisted Living, in Richmond, Va.
He was born on April 3, 1924, in Pembroke, Va., to the late George Riley and Maggie Pauline Jones. George had been a member of Fort Lewis Baptist Church. Following his dedicated service in the United States Army during WWII, He became employed with G.E. Electric as a foreman, where he would retire after 29 faithful years of service. His craftsmanship in basket weaving and caning, as well as the numerous wreathes and flower arrangements he created for weddings and other events, were always very pronounced and nothing short of amazing. Above it all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sarah Douthat Jones; daughter, Catherine Jones Cole; siblings, Douglas, Juanita, Lynn, Leo, Lawrence, Beulah, Frances, Pauline, Irving, Mary, and Donald Jones.

Family remaining to cherish his memory includes his daughter, Dana Jones Mishoe; grandchildren, Laura Cole Duncan, Katy Mishoe Parkes, and Mackinsey Mishoe Foust; great-grandchildren, Zachary Cole Duncan, Noah Riley Duncan, Emerson Grace Parkes, and Oliver James Parkes; and his sister-in-law, Joyce Jones.

Funeral services to honor George’s life, will be conducted on Friday, October 23, 2020, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son funeral home in Salem, with Pastor Roy Kanode officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 23, 2020, from 1 p.m. until the time of a service.
