Richard "Conrad" Rakes

Richard Conrad Rakes, 58, of Bassett, passed away at his home on Monday October 12, 2020.  He was born in Martinsville on July 12, 1962 the son of the late Richard Earl Rakes and the late Jeroline Archer Rakes.
He loved to fish, hunt and play the guitar, but most of all he loved the Word of God.  He studied accounting at VCU in Richmond, Class of 1993.  Although Conrad became a CPA, he chose a different career as a truck driver.  Conrad found a lot of joy being on the road and traveling to many places throughout the country. 
In recent times, Conrad had been dealing with health issues that took him away from us much too soon.  He was a kind, gentle, humble and giving man that will be missed dearly.
He is survived by a brother, Carlton Rakes and wife Kathy of Wirtz; sisters, Carmen Joubert of Lumberton, NC and Carla Hankins of Raleigh, NC; nephew, Jean Paul Joubert and a niece, Christina Joubert; many cousins, aunts and uncles, who all loved him very much.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests that contributions be made in his honor to your local SPCA, Hospice or food bank.
