Doris Taylor Carter

Doris Taylor Carter, 80, of Martinsville, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2020, at SOVAH Health of Martinsville. She was born June 29, 1940 in Martinsville, to the late Joseph Berkley Taylor and Hope Gravely Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Carter, Sr.; sisters, Charlotte Thomas Gravely and Phyllistine Jones; and brothers, Charlie Taylor, Joseph Taylor, Jr. and James "Garfield" Lunnerman, Sr.

Mrs. Carter was a graduate of G.W.Carver High School and Rockingham Community College. She was a member of Mt. Sinai Apostle Church where she was on the Hospitality Committee and was a Missionary. She loved to cook, crochet, watch court shows, read, and work jigsaw puzzles.

Mrs. Carter is survived by his children, Charlene Harrington, Joseph Carter (Thelma), Timothy Carter, Jr. (Sonya), Adrienne Lynette Cook, and Melissa Billups (Tommy); sisters, Janice Kirby (John), Siberia Hairston, Senora Hairston Mayhan, and Ada Carter; sister-in-law, Gladys Carter; eleven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday, November 14, 2020, at 12:00 Noon at Mt. Sinai Apostle church, with Bishop J. C. Richardson, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to service. Burial will follow at Fair Haven Memorial Park. A floating visitation will be on Friday, November 13, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.
