Robert "Rob" Olin Hanners, III

January 15, 1985 - November 27, 2020

Robert “Rob” Olin Hanners III, 35, of Salem, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020.

It was no secret to anyone that Rob was truly a one-of-a-kind type of guy. No matter where he was or what he was doing, he never met a stranger. His smile would light up the room, his laugh was infectious, and his personality was like none other. Always dressed to the nines, and always making sure his muscles were on full display. Chances are if you saw him in a T-shirt it probably wasn’t going to be on him long before he would put on a show flexing his muscles, with his physique on full display without a care in the world. Weightlifting was his life, especially dead lifting! A two-time National Deadlift Champion, he would always challenge himself to push harder and achieve his goals. Throughout his life he has always been athletic, breaking records in cross-country, as well as weightlifting, even beating his own records on several occasions. Aside from his athletic abilities, he was also a talented spray paint artist. His creations each one more unique than the other. Rob was an inspiration to many during his life and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Rob is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ro and Patsy Hanners; as well as his father, Robert O. Hanners Jr. “Buddy”.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving mother, Betty Hanners-scott; stepfather, James R. Scott; grandparents, Thomas “Gus” and Shirley Bartenfield, Henry and Barbara Hutchinson; sister, Della Rhea Scott; brothers, James, Shane, Sean, and Jonathan Scott; aunts, Cheryl Moore (Wayne), and Missy Armes (Brad); as well as his uncle, Johnny Hutchinson (Kay).

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 30, 2020, at their residence, 1147 Polar Lane Salem, VA 24153, from both 2 – 4:00 p.m. and 6 – 8:00 p.m. Rob’s funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Lighthouse Baptist Church, Highway 311 New Castle, VA 24217. He will be laid to rest next to his father in the Level Green Christian Church Cemetery in New Port, VA immediately following the service.
