Edna Smith Bohon

April 26, 1930 - December 16, 2020

Edna Smith Bohon, 90, longtime resident of Salem passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020.  She was born on April 26, 1930, in Wythe County, Virginia. She is preceded in death by her mother, Irma Edwards Smith; father, Walter Smith; brothers, Eugene Smith, Claudie Smith, sisters: Wilma Lee, Frances Hare, and Carol Leonard. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Genia and Mike Nichols, grandson, Quentin Nichols(Charlotte, NC). She is also survived by two sisters, Claudine Crawford (Salem), Geneva Wiseman (Staunton), and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her husband, Wesley Shilling, and two stepsons.
Edna retired from Valleydale Packers and worked past retirement with Salem City Schools at East Salem Elementary. She enjoyed all things in nature, including gardening, fishing, and feeding the birds that would frequently visit her backyard. She was also an excellent seamstress, cook and loved to dance. Living near the Salem Red Sox baseball field, she enjoyed attending their games.  Edna loved listening to music, especially gospel music. She adored her grandson Quentin and family gatherings.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Edna’s Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be Graveside at Sherwood Memorial Park on December 22, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Brent T. Williams officiating.
