Doris May Chambers Ritter
Doris May Chambers Ritter, 94, of Salem, Va., passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021.
Doris graduated from Troutville High School and later was a part of Roanoke College’s class of 1948. She was a medical technologist and worked for the National Institute of Health. Her longstanding church membership was held at both College Lutheran Church of Salem, Va., and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Roanoke, Va.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Ivan and Deborah McAlexander Chambers; husband of 58 years, Rev. Guy A. Ritter Jr.; son, Charlie Ritter; and brother, Clyde I. Chambers.
Her surviving family includes her children, Ivan C. Ritter and wife, Nancy, and Paul A. Ritter and Penny Hooker; step-grandson, Scott Thomas and wife, Melissa; step-great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Thomas, Isabella Carr, and Dexter Thomas; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family extends special appreciation to the staff at Brandon Oaks, both in Assisted Living and the Nursing Rehabilitation Center, for its excellent care.
A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, Va., with the Rev. James Armentrout officiating. Please bring a chair.
