Ruth Peters Ellinger

Ruth Peters Ellinger, 93, of Lynch Station died Friday, January 1, 2021 at Lynchburg Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born November 13, 1927 in Maben, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Euel Hasting Cox and Vina Pendry Cox. While living in West Virginia, she married her first love, James Cecil Peters. James died in coal mining accident at the young age of 27. Knowing she wanted more for her first two children, she moved her family to Virginia in 1963. Once settled, she found love again and married Richard Norvell Ellinger. Both James and Richard preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by three brothers, Kyle Cox, Kessel Cox, and Earl Vanoy; and five sisters, Leona Milam, Cristal Canada, Clarice Jarrell, Mary Woolford, and Joyce Pritchard.

Mrs. Ellinger was a member of Leesville United Methodist Church. She was employed at Jimmy’s Restaurant, Carter’s Store, and Abbott Laboratories. While at home, she enjoyed gardening and cooking. If you knew Mrs. Ellinger, you may remember her homemade pies, cobblers, and biscuits.

She is survived by her daughter, Nora Mattox, of Lynch Station; three sons, Jerdon Peters and his wife, Josefina of El Paso, TX, Richard Ellinger of Alexandria, VA, and Gary Ellinger of Greensboro, NC. She is also survived by five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the family will not be receiving friends at the home or the funeral home. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Leesville United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating.
