Joseph Stafford Foxwell
Joseph Stafford Foxwell, 93, died Monday, January 4, 2021. He was the husband of Lois McCue Foxwell for 70 years.
Born in Middlesex County, VA, on July 21, 1927, he was a son of the late John Stafford Foxwell and Elizabeth Garnett Foxwell. He was a charter member of Grace Hills Baptist Church and a US Navy veteran serving in WW II. Joe joined the Virginia State Police in 1951, rising through the ranks to Assistant Special Agent in Charge. He retired from The Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Appomattox Division in 1984. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, and jet skiing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Scarlet Foxwell of Chester; two sons, Neale Foxwell and wife, Carole of Appomattox, and John Foxwell and wife, Donna of Rocky Mount; three grandchildren, Meghan F. Staton and Jeremy, Autumn F. Godsey and Calvin, and Joseph S. Foxwell, II; and 11 great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Channing, Bella, Finley, Greenlee, Chesnee, Zaybree, Kendall, Ryleigh, Blair, and Amelia.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Due to Covid-19 there will be a private family burial service. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
