Sandra Jean Mayberry

October 1, 1944 - January 11, 2021

Sandra Jean Cyrus Mayberry 76, of Appomattox died at home with her loving family on Monday, January 11, 2021. She was the wife of the late Rev. Joseph D. Mayberry, whom she loved dearly for 52 years.

Jean was born on October 1, 1944, in Lexington, Va., a daughter of the late Margaret Beard and Adolphus Richard Cyrus. For 48 years, Jean drove a school bus for Appomattox County and worked in the school cafeteria. She was a long-time supportive pastors’ wife in The Church of God and worked in multiple nursing home ministries. Her passion was singing to others, spending time with her children; her sister, Barbara; and her school bus family. Jean also loved traveling to Tennessee with her good friend, Sandra Hickman and her husband, Noah.

She is survived by three sons, Joseph T. (Reno) Mayberry and his wife, Deann of Lynchburg, Darrell Mayberry and his wife, Robin of Appomattox, and Mark Mayberry and his wife, Marlene of Charlottesville; a daughter, Stephanie Mayberry Reynolds and her husband, Alex of Lynchburg; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, James (Jimmy) Cyrus; and three sisters, Barbara C. Carrico, Virginia C. Dalton, and Donna C. Staton.
She was predeceased by a brother, Robert C. Staton and a sister, Peggy C. Henderson.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 14, 2021, at Liberty Cemetery with her son, Mark officiating. Please remember to practice social distancing and to wear a face mask.

Mrs. Mayberry will be available for viewing from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m., on Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home.
