James Edward Cheatham

James Edward Cheatham, 80, passed away Monday, January 18, 2021.  He was the loving husband of Juanita Cheatham for 57 years. 
Born in Appomattox County, May 20, 1940, he was a son of the late Frances Miles and William “Billy” Cheatham.  James served in the United States Navy for four years.  He retired from R.R. Donnelly.  James was a Deacon and lifetime member at Reedy Spring Baptist Church where he served faithfully all his life.  He taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, served on many committees and the cemetery committee.  James was a past president and chartered member of Spout Spring Ruritan Club, past president of Reedy Creek Hunt Club.  He served on many committees and was well known in the Town of Appomattox.  James worked on the Electoral Board for 40 years. 
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Sharon Conner and husband Richard; three grandchildren, James “J.T.” Conner, John D. Conner and Sara Rose Conner; four brothers, Richard Cheatham, Thacker Cheatham and wife, Marie, H.T. Cheatham and wife, Delores and Ralph Cheatham and wife, Shirley; three sisters, Susie Nuckles, Joyce Sayre and husband, Larry and Peggy Moore and husband, Billy; four sisters-in-law, Dolores Cheatham, Linda Paulette, Sarah Cheatham and Jackie Schropp; many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, James Michael Cheatham; three brothers, Marshall Cheatham, Roy Cheatham and Robert Cheatham; one sister, Jean New; two brothers-in-law, Richard New and Haywood Nuckles; and one sister-in-law, Frances Cheatham.
A private graveside service was held at Reedy Spring Baptist Church Cemetery.
