James Gomer Walker
James Gomer Walker, 71, of Bassett, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021 at Sovah Health – Martinsville. He was born on June 2, 1949 in Patrick County to the late Gomer G. Walker and the late Madeline Hutcherson Walker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Walker; sister, Evelyn Gilman; 3 grandsons and a nephew.
He was a member of Community Baptist Church and the Bassett Moose Lodge. James enjoyed spending time at Peewee Turner’s Garage.
James is survived by his loving wife , whom he was with for 49 years, Mary Hodges Walker; children, Kathy Wampler (Robert), Lewis Underwood (Lisa), Doug Underwood (Teresa), Bonnie Wagoner (Ronnie) Robert Underwood (Sharon and Peewee Turner (Robin); a brother, Brother J.D. Walker (Debra); 3 sister, Ilene Walker, Mae Mosely and Linda Knott (Ray); 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends.
Friends may stop by the funeral home Friday, January 29th between 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM to view and sign the register without the family present. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 29, 2021 at 1:00 PM in the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel with Brother J.D. Walker and Jimmy Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in the County Line Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery.
