Helen Mae Ramey Hawkes

Helen Mae Ramey Hawkes, of Martinsville, Va. passed away Monday, January 25, 2021. She was born in Tazewell County, Va. to Theodore V. Ramey and Sarah Jane Kirtner Ramey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Harry, William and Charles Ramey; sisters, Virginia Ruth Ramey and Marjorie Charlton.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Smith (Jerry); sons, David Hawkes, Roberts A. Hawkes (Debbie); granddaughters, Jennifer Jackson (Thomas) and Laura Lamb (William); great grandchildren, Tommy and Robert Jackson, Natalie and Caroline Lambert and Will Lamb.
Mrs. Hawkes was a graduate of Graham High School in Bluefield, Va., Bluefield College, Averett College and Virginia Tech. She retired with 20 years of service as a teacher at Carver and Magna Vista High Schools.
She was a very active member of First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville where she served as an Elder. She also enjoyed traveling.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Bluefield, Va.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the choice of the donor.
