Joseph Dean Howell

Joseph Dean Howell, of Bedford was called home to be with the Lord at the age of 73. He passed away suddenly on Thursday February 4, 2021.

He is survived by his son, Jason Howell of Charlottesville; his daughter, Kelly Robey and her husband, John Robey of Louisa; his son, Ryan Howell and his wife, Jennifer Falcone of Palmyra. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Jacob Robey, Olivia Howell, Caitlin Howell, Emisyn Howell & Laney Howell; his sister, Carolyn Sue Howell of Bedford and her friend, Jimmy Delong and a host of nieces & nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his father, Roy Courtworth Howell, his mother, Mamie Lou Arrington of Bedford as well as five brothers and two sisters.

Joe was retired from the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Local 45 in Richmond, where he faithfully worked for 30 years. He was a proud veteran and served in the United States Army for 3 years. He was an avid lover of movies, football, vegetable gardening, reading and bird watching.

He was a loving & devoted father and grandfather and adored his children and grandchildren. He had a kind heart and an infectious smile that will be missed by all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with interment to follow at Suck Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, we ask donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
