Corey Lamont DeShazo
Corey Lamont DeShazo, 49, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Sovah Health, Martinsville, VA. He was born to Carla DeShazo and Pete Holland on May 24, 1971.
DeShazo received his education through the Martinsville City School and the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School systems. He enlisted in the US Army thru the Early Entry Program his senior year of high school and immediately went to basic training upon graduation, June 1990. Immediately after basic training he was deployed to serve his country in the Gulf War. DeShazo was employed by the Patrick Henry Correctional Unit in Ridgeway, VA and was a member of New Life in Christ Church.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents - Frank and Loretta DeShazo; paternal grandparents - Alex and Louise Holland; uncles, Charlie and Frank and Harry Holland.
Surviving are his wife Stephanie; children Corey, Jr. (DeAnn), Kayla, DeVontae, Ne’Airra and Jolen; grandchild Cori Lanae; mother Carla Holt (Donnie); father Pete Holland (Ann); sisters Shana DeShazo, Trimette Holland and Tomika Couch; brothers Steve Akridge and Andre King, a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Observing Covid-19 precautions, the family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, 3665 Fairystone Park Highway, Bassett, Virginia. The funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Von Finney officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens directly after the service. The family respectfully requests all persons attending the funeral service to wear a mask and to respect social distancing
