June Mowbray Thomas

June Mowbray Thomas, 77, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 18, 2021. She was preceded by her parents, Andrew Lewis and Virginia Harris Mowbray; husband, Joseph “Jay” Thomas; brothers, Charles Rodney “Chuck”, Eugene and Donald Mowbray; and sisters, Virginia Lucille Smith, Norma and Gloria Mowbray.

June was a former employee of Roanoke City Schools and served as secretary at Roanoke First Church of God on Hildebrand Road for more than 50 years. In addition to her work as secretary, she was an active member serving in numerous capacities.

Surviving are her devoted pet, Jodie; step children, Scott “Scotty” Thomas and Kathy Thomas Christian; special nephew, Ken (Candy) Mowbray and their children, Abbi and Sarah; special niece, Linda (Dennis) Hudson; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and a large church family.

The family wishes to offer a special thank you to the staff on The Dogwood Memory Unit at Salem Terrace for the wonderful care they provided June and the entire family. Also, a special thanks to Vanessa with Good Samaritan Hospice for her many acts of kindness and compassion.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Roanoke First Church of God by Dr. James B. Milner . Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
