Vernon Wesley Peters, Sr.

March 7, 1931 - February 24, 2021

Vernon Wesley Peters, Sr., 89, of Ridgeway, entered heaven’s gates and into the arms of his precious Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. He was born March 7, 1931 to the late Herald Dean and Roxie Emma Hale Peters. He is with his Lord he sought to honor, his wife he loved dearly, his daughters Ronda Hale and Jane Evelyn Peters, his son-in-law Jimmy Thomas, his unborn child, and his parents, siblings, and many other family and friends who went before him and welcomed him there. It was a glad reunion day. He passed surrounded by his family at the home he built for his wife.

Vernon is survived by nine of his eleven children, three daughters Jean Thomas (Steve), Ruth Thomas, Rebecca Fugel (Billy), six sons V.W. Peters, Jr. (Susan), Tim Peters (Sandy), David Peters (Karen), Daniel Peters (Lorrie), Arnold Peters (Tina), Leslie Peters (Hope), two sisters Nellie Warren and Shirley Freeman (Tracy), our adopted sister Susan Penn, twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vernon’s faith was the foundation for everything he did. God was first place in his life and his desire was to honor Him first and foremost and point others to Christ. He was a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church.

All he did was done to the best of his ability. Excellence was the standard, and he never wavered or compromised. He was a talented carpenter by trade and a fierce competitor behind a Scrabble or Checkers board. He loved to go deep sea fishing and spending time with his family. His love for his wife, children, family, and church was only surpassed by the love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a prayer warrior to the very end.

We lost the earthly presence of our loving and faithful Dad, but he will live eternally in heaven and in our hearts. He left us a priceless legacy to honor. He was a Godly man of faith and character and always sought to honor his Lord in everything he did. A quiet and gentle man of few words, filled with Godly wisdom, and faithful to every task God put before him. Steadfast in his faith through trial and triumph, joy and heartache, sickness and health. Loving, consistent, and faithful to his Lord, his wife, and his family. He fought a good fight, finished the course, kept the faith, and he will receive his reward. We are thankful to call him Dad and PawPaw. Our hearts are broken, but it is well with our souls.

Visitation is Saturday February 27, 2021 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., at Grassy Creek Baptist Church, 416 Sunnycrest Dr., Martinsville, VA 24112 with a Celebration of Life Service immediately following. Burial will follow the service at Grassy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. V.W. Peters, Jr. is officiating.
