Wesley Edward Davis

June 7, 1922 - March 28, 2021

Wesley Edward Davis, 98, of Roanoke, passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2021, at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection, in Stuart, Va.

He was born on June 7, 1922, in Tazewell, Va., son of the late David McNeal and Pearl Tuggle Davis.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII as a Military Policeman. He was a faithful member of Riverside Evangelical Methodist Church in Salem, where numerous friendships have been made over the years. He was employed with Valleydale Meats, in Salem, a faithful employee for 25 plus years before the plant eventually closed. When not at church or at work, Wesley enjoyed gardening and tending to his bee’s, or you may have even found him just enjoying God’s creation. He loved to watch and listen to the birds, squirrels, and other creatures stirring around the house.

In addition to his parents, Wesley was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Verlie Mitchell Davis; son, D. Wesley Davis; six brothers and four sisters.

Family remaining to cherish his memory includes his sons, Gratton Davis (Jackie), Gene Davis, and Barry Davis (Reba); daughters, Karen Overstreet (Darrell), and Sharon Edmonds; daughter-in-law, Sherri Davis; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary and Shelby Davis; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Glen and Jane Mitchell; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services to honor Wesley’s life will be conducted on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at Riverside Evangelical Methodist Church, 1920 Lucas St, Salem, at 12 noon, with Pastor Brian Gordon officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Roanoke.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday, at the church.
