Barbara Ann Claybrook Arnold

October 15, 1933 - April 8, 2021

Barbara Ann Claybrook Arnold, 87, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 8, 2021, from Lewis-Gale Medical Center, in Salem. She was born on October 15, 1933, daughter of the late Roosevelt Franklin and Mary Burge Claybrook.
Barbara earned her degree in nursing in 1955 and began her career as a supervisor of the newborn nursery at Jefferson Hospital. She later became a nursing supervisor in the labor and delivery ward at Jefferson and then with Community Hospital. She was a faithful member of Ridgewood Baptist Church in Roanoke, where numerous friendships were made.
Barbara had a very keen sense of humor and her infectious laugh would have everyone smiling. She was a fun and outgoing person who loved and cared for her family, never once missing a birthday of those she cared most about.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Emma Claybrook and John and Eudora Burge; husband of 40 plus years, Paul E. Arnold; brother, Frank Claybrook; sister-in-law, Geneva Claybrook; and nephew, Dean Kemp.

Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her stepdaughter, Lisa Moore; niece, Tammy Byrd; nephew, Scott Claybrook (Beth); and several great-nephews.

Funeral services to honor Barbara’s life will be conducted on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, with Pastor Roy E. Kanode officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.

A private interment will be conducted at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Harold Pruitt, for his friendship, and to Barbara’s church family at Ridgewood Baptist for their love and friendship to Barbara.
