Daniel Ray Colwell, 65, of Salem, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 9, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Daniel was born on Saturday, September 24, 1955, to the late, Raymond and Maxine Colwell in Scottsburg, IN. When the call of the country was heard Daniel enlisted and served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was known as the Chef in his family. Aside from cooking, he loved nature and being outdoors. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Anna Richardson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Norma Colwell; sons, James Colwell, Ray Colwell and wife, Jennifer, Scottie Colwell and wife, Leigh; daughters, Erin Colwell, and Leah Colwell; grandkids, Holden Colwell, Caleb Cohen, Jordan Hembree, Dylan Hembree, Daniel Colwell, Eric Colwell, Chris Colwell, Jayden Colwell, Samuel Baker, and Abigail Baker; sister, Merry Roope.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, VA, with Pastor Ben Richardson officiating. Burial will follow privately with his family, with the grandkids serving as pallbearers.
Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until the service hour.
Those attending services must wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
