William Gaston Shell, Jr.

April 30, 1936 - April 17, 2021

William Gaston Shell, Jr., 84, of Roanoke passed away on April 17, 2021 at Carrington Place in Daleville due to COVID-19 complications.
A native of North Carolina he was the husband of the late Jean Dalton Shell and the son of William G Shell, Sr. and Cornelia Harrelson Shell Paysour, both deceased. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. William attended the University of NC-Chapel Hill and Appalachian State University. He was the owner of A-1 Beauty Supply in Roanoke, VA. His large garden was very important to him. He enjoyed working in the garden and producing wonderful vegetables that he shared with family, friends and neighbors. He sold produce to a large number of “customers” who became dear friends.
William is survived by two step daughters, Terri Spring (Rick) and Amy Shoemaker (Andy Mannon) both of Roanoke, VA; his step son, Gary Graham “Bo” of Pulaski, VA; sister, Sarah P Smith of Bluffton, SC; six grandchildren, Jamie, Taylor and Cody Graham, Whitne Graham, Keli Spring, and Hunter Shoemaker; and seven nieces and nephews, Lynne Bradshaw, Ken Hall, Matt Smith, Cathryn Taulbee, Stephanie Neel, Kim Smith and Jeff Best.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his step father, Rodney Paysour; two sisters, Wilma P Best and Rosa Shell Hall; and niece Alice Hall.
A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
