Kenneth Robert Swain, Sr.

July 24, 1939 - April 17, 2021

Kenneth Robert Swain, Sr. (Chief) 81 of Moneta, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 17, 2021. He served as a police officer for the borough of Glen River, NJ from 1961 until his retirement in 1986 as the Glen Ridge Chief of Police and the Director of Public Safety. Chief was born on Monday, July 24, 1939 in Irvington, NJ, the only child of Franklin Clifford Swain and Alberta May Ego Swain. He was military veteran having served in the military police and both the 82nd and the 101st Airborne Divisions, being one of the first jump qualified MPs in the U.S Army. After retiring from the police department, Chief moved to Moneta and became the director of the Smith Mountain Lake Welcome Center. He was ideally suited for this position as it has been said that he never met a stranger. All those that knew him will remember him for his true faith in his profession, his country and his Lord.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Carol Arnold Swain; daughter, Diane Korsh; son, Cliff Swain; son-in-law Eric Korsh; daughter-in-law Kim Swain; and grandchildren Danielle (Korsh) and Shane Macedo, Cole Korsh, Meghan O'Donnell-Swain, Kenneth Robert Swain III, Thomas Swain, John Swain, Madison Swain, Julia Swain, Paige Swain, Colin Swain and Gerardson Martino Chery. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Robert Swain, Jr.
Services to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday April 24, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Halesford Baptist Church in Wirtz, Virginia. Family visitation will begin at 1:30.
