John "Garland" Pollard

May 27, 1935 - April 18, 2021

John "Garland" Pollard, 85, of Hardy passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 18, 2021. He was predeceased by his parents, Herman and Virginia Pollard and by his son, Dean Pollard.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Simmons Pollard; daughters, Denise Pollard, Donna (Danny) Collins; step-grandchildren, Haley Collins and Ashley (Thisira) Pinto; siblings, Marie Pollard, Andy Pollard, Janie Hughes, Mary Ann (Glen) Bohannon, Lee (E.V.) Pollard, and many other extended family members.

He was a faithful servant of God and was a long time member of White Rock Baptist Church in Hardy, VA. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953-1957 and was stationed in Alaska. He loved his family, motorcycles, working on old cars, and traveling throughout the U.S. His love and patience as a father and devotion to his family will always be remembered.

The family would like to thank his caregivers, Rhonda Bradley and Catherine Kendall with Ellis Senior Care and Heartland Hospice for their care, compassion, and kindness. A celebration of his life will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 23, 2021 at Lotz Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton with Pastor Glen Stinnett officiating. Interment will follow at White Rock Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 1-2pm, prior to the service.
