George Mack Gay

April 30, 1943 - April 17, 2021

George Mack Gay, 77, of Vinton, went home to be with his lord on Saturday, April 17, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 30, 1943, in Roanoke VA to George W. Gay and Anna Gay Saylor. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1960-1966 and was employed by Tread Corp of Roanoke for 25 years. He served as an avid volunteer at the VA medical Center, in Salem for the Disabled American Veterans. He received many awards for the 1000's of hours that he volunteered. He was also a loyal member of the Marine Corp League, where he served as Sargent at Arms. George was also a long time member of Lynn Haven Baptist Church, where he volunteered many years with the Royal Ambassadors. He cherished his time fishing, camping and sharing his love of the Lord with the young boys. George's greatest passion in life was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved to fish and never met a stranger. George was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; stepfather; Delbert Saylor; mother-in-law, Kathy Huff; brother-in-law David Huff, and nephew, Jody Sprague.

George is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Charlotte E. Gay; children, Tammy Carter (Jamie), George Garrett, Amy O'Brien (Bill), Teresa Henderson (Greg); grandchildren, Brandon (Valerie), Lauren (Adam), Kayla (Austin), Kristyn (Robert), George "Buck", Chase, Sage, Abigail, Tiffaney (Scott), Haley (Barak), Tyler (Jasmine); great-grandchildren, Ella, Rhaelynn, Mason, Aiden and William; siblings, Sharon Riordan (Kevin), Patricia Rose (Bill); brothers-in-law and sisters in-law, Lewis Huff (Jean), Roger Huff (Debra), Louise Powers (Carl),Linda Meador (Kenneth), James Huff., Aunts, Jeri Kikel,  Bette Jean Gay, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of his life will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Lynn Haven Baptist Church in Vinton with Dr. Bob Heatherington and Rev. Harold Cook officiating.
