Katherine Leona White Purcell

October 29, 1927 - April 20, 2021

Katherine Leona White Purcell went home with Jesus on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 8:50am. She was the loving wife of the late John J. Purcell, Jr., for 70 years.

Born in Jamaica, Queens, New York on October 29, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Katherine Lundy Korhonen Moore and John LaMont White, and her stepfather, the late Albin Korhonen. She lived in Pennington, N.J for decades before retiring to Spout Spring, Va.

Katherine “Lee” was a member of Appomattox Assembly of God for 25 years. She loved going to Bible Study, doing devotionals, yard sales and farmer’s markets. She enjoyed gardening, camping and music. Her favorite thing was spending time with family having Sunday dinners and Saturday picnics.

She is survived by two daughters, Janet F. Swanson-Evans of Appomattox, Va. and Peggy Lee and Jared Giles of Yardley, Pa.; a son, Richard J. and Joy Purcell of Spout Spring, Va.; two daughters-in-law, Deborah L. Purcell and Debbie A. Purcell; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and too many friends to count.

She was predeceased in death by two sons, James M. Purcell and Robert J. Purcell and several siblings.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, April 24, 2021, at Appomattox Assembly of God, officiated by the Pastor Gene Riffey with burial following in Liberty Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and other times at the home of her daughter, Janet.
