Sharon Anne Smith Kast

August 1, 1946 - June 2, 2021

Surrounded by her loving family, Sharon Anne Smith Kast passed away peacefully on June 2, 2021. Born in Rushville, IN on August 1, 1946 she was the daughter of the late Robert Frances Smith and Eleanor Juanita McFerrin. She retired from Virginia Tech, where she served as an assistant to the Department of human nutrition, foods, and exercise for numerous years. She had a love for cooking, baking, birds, flowers, the mountains, the beach, playing cards, and Yahtzee. She was a devoted woman of God, very loving, friendly, and accepting. This is how she became known as “Mammaw” to everyone who met her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Paul Joseph Kast Sr.; brothers Glenn Smith and Rickie Smith; and brother and sister-in-laws Carolyn Kast, Norman Kast, Ruth Martin, Ray Tate, Richard Kast, Memphis Kast, and Barbara Elliott. She will be deeply missed and remembered by son Paul Joseph Kast Jr. and his wife Donna of Goldbond, daughter Laura Neal and husband Michial of Lynchburg; four grandchildren Sarah Carter of Christiansburg, Andrea Kast and partner Travis of Goldbond, Ryan and Rheanna Neal of Lynchburg, Aleena Gellner of Goldbond, Samantha Shelor and husband Michael of Shawsville, and Bryant Kinder of Dublin; several great-grandchildren; brothers Robert J. Smith and wife Sharon of Ellettsville, IN, Russell Smith and wife Ginger of Milan, IN, and Richard Smith and wife Jeannie of Rushville, IN; sisters Joyce Stevens and late husband Tom of Rushville, IN, Tena Rhodes and husband Dennis of Rushville, IN; many dear nieces and nephews; beloved in-laws Rachel Tate, Janet and Tony Bachelor, Gloria Kast, Arnold Kast and partner Connie Kelley, Clarence and Penny Kast, Wanda Kast, and Betty Vincel. Memorial services will be held on Saturday June 12, 2021 at 1:00pm at Bethel Chapel Church. The address is 1402 Clendennin Road Narrows, VA 24124. The memorial service will be officiated by Pastor Eddie Kendall. The family will gather at Bethel Chapel in Clendennin for a family meal following the services.
