Nancy Mae Stevens Fleshman
Nancy Mae Fleshman, 81, of Salem, passed from this life on Thursday, July 1, 2021, from Lewis-Gale Medical Center, in Salem.
She was born on January 1, 1940, in Augusta, Maine, daughter of the late George E. and Beatrice I. Bonney Stevens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 20 plus years, Joseph V. Fleshman.
Nancy was known as the family caregiver, especially to her granddaughter, Ciara whom she was raising. Unlike most, however, her assistance came with the intent of you making your own way for the purpose of being independent. She was extremely intelligent, head strong, and caring all wrapped in one package. Her family will mostly miss trips to the beach with her, as she thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them there, although being terrified of the water.
Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her children, Dale Clark, of Great Falls, Mont., Duane Clark (Carol King), of Boones Mill, Va., Dena Goff (Mark), of Salem, and David Clark, of Roanoke; grandchildren, Dustin Steele, Tasha Kohlwes (Brandon), Ryan Steele (Kayla), and Stephan Wall (Miranda); great-grandchildren, Brenden Steele, Christina Garrett, Ciara Steele, Jaxon Steele, Jenson Wall, and Kendell and Harper Lynn Kohlwes; and her k-9 companions, Lucky and Boomer.
A celebration of Nancy’s life will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 5, 2021, at New Covenant Christian Church; 4807 Cove Rd., NW, in Roanoke, with Pastor Chris Kingery officiating.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 12 noon until time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Nancy’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Lewis-Gale Medical Center for the care given to Nancy when it was needed most.
