Frederick L Harrison
Frederick L. Harrison passed away in his sleep on August 31, 2020.
Freddie was born in Shinnston December 5, 1926. He was always proud of Shinnston and his WV heritage. Anyone he met from WV had instant credibility and became a favored friend. His favorite thing in his room was his Blue and Gold WV University throw cover.
Freddie was the son of Joseph Harrison and Renie Galmish Harrison of Shinnston growing up on “tank hill”. Freddie enjoyed playing basketball for Marshall University and Alderson-Broaddus College and graduated from A-B. He was a veteran serving in the Army in WWII in Italy. Freddie was a left handed pitcher in the minor leagues for the Milwaukee Braves. He taught high school and coached basketball in Craig County, VA in the mid 50’s and was a planner for General Electric for 30 years. Freddie excelled at anything requiring athletic skill: basketball, fast pitch softball, bowling, ping pong, billiards, and golf. Golf was his real love for many years and he regularly won amateur golf tournaments in the Roanoke, VA area. He enjoyed regular golf outing trips with friends to Myrtle Beach and the Greenbrier. Freddie was always known to be a gentleman and the nurses all loved him due to his great sense of humor and kind manner always appreciative of their care.
Freddie is survived by his sister Karen (Rusty) and Bill Riffle, nephews Jeff and Stacy Riffle; his love of his life, wife of 70 years, Maxine R. Harrison, Son and daughter-in law Joe and Carla Harrison, Grandkids, Justin and Lauren Harrison, and Courtney H. and Blake Mann; and great grand kids who he loved watching play sports, Zachary, Makayla and Braxton Mann. They are blessed to have had “Pop-Pops” give them some coaching tips and to have his athletic abilities. Freddie was all about family, loved holiday gatherings and was always up for a trip with the grandkids when they were growing up or a cookout with the great-grand kids. Freddie was a very dedicated husband visiting Maxine nearly every day despite her advanced Dementia, but Maxine always knew him including his final day with us.
