Doreathea Martin Ballard

Doreathea Martin Ballard 92, of Fieldale, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 27 at her home.  Born in Patrick Co. on August 12, 1928, the daughter of the late Forest Biggs Martin and the late Nannie Lou Adams Martin.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son Jimmie Ballard and  her brothers, Alvis Martin, Mervin Martin and Johnny Martin; sisters, Geneva Pendleton and Faye Martin.  Doreathea was a member at Tabernacle Baptist Church for 67 years.  She also served as the youth leader along with her husband and she head of the ladies fellowship. She was also a Sunday school teacher for many years for the 12 year olds.
Surviving her loving husband of 71 years, Henry Ballard; daughter and son – in – law Rachel Brooks and husband Roger, grandchildren; Robin  (Roy) Sawyers,  Kristie Brooks Gusler and Tiffany Ballard; great grandchild; Austin Crawford, Alicia Gusler and Rachael Potter and one great great grandchild Mason Wilkes.   She is also survived by her brother and sister in – law; Druie Martin and wife Ann and sister and brother – in – law; Elsie Haynes and husband John.
The visitation will be held Monday, August 2 from 12 – 1 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 1:00 with Dr. Christopher Atkinson and Dr. David Towler officiating with burial to follow in Roselawn Burial Park. Bassett Funeral Service in Bassett is serving the Ballard family.
