Alonza Edward Walker

June 21, 1926 - August 5, 2021

Alonza Edward Walker, 95, of Salem, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 5, 2021.

He was born in Roanoke County, a son of the late Andrew and Ethel Bandy Walker and had been an area resident all of his life. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was employed as a machinist with General Electric prior to retiring following 30 years of service. He was a lifelong member of Glenvar Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Lois Poff Walker, and two brothers, Ralph and Bobby Walker.

He was a gentle man rooted in his faith and in his love for his family.

He is survived by three sons, Larry (Nona) Walker, Mark (Sandy) Walker and Dean Walker; a daughter, Brenda (Larry) Simmons; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; a sister, Merle Mabry, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. Pastor Matt King will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, Monday at the funeral home.
