William Alden "Bill" Breedlove, Sr.

March 10, 1946 - August 13, 2021

William Alden “Bill” Breedlove, Sr., 75, of Salem, went to be with his Lord, after a three-year battle with cancer, on Friday, August 13, 2021.

Born in Roanoke, Virginia on March 10, 1946, to the late Harold James and Blanche Mustard Breedlove, he is also preceded in death by a brother, James L. Breedlove.

Bill enlisted in the United States Army upon graduating from high school and served for four years as active duty and in the Reserves for an additional 18 years. He was a member of the Taylor Masonic Lodge #23 as well as the Kazim Shriners International. In his spare time, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed cheering on his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys. Always a prankster, Bill loved playing jokes and picking on his grandkids, whom he dearly loved.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 50 years, Ruby H. Breedlove, of Salem; son, William A. “Bill” Breedlove, Jr. and wife, Vickie, of Salem; grandchildren, Grace, Cora, and Daisy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem. A committal service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, Virginia, with Pastor Chris Kingery officiating.
