Pastor Paul D. Looney

PASTOR PAUL DALLAS LOONEY, 57, of Bastian, VA, went to be with the Lord he served on Friday, August 13, 2021, surrounded by his family.  He was born January 11, 1964 in Bluefield, WV, the son of the late Dallas E. & Betty Parnell Looney.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an unborn grandchild and a nephew, Joey Dye.
“Pastor Paul” was the pastor of Bastian Union Church. He was proud of the people of his church and the growth of his church. He enjoyed doing mission work in Haiti and Guatemala and leading the church youth groups and church choir. A proud Hokies fan, he graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He was an insurance agent with Nationwide for many years. Pastor Paul played the piano, the organ and was a member of the Jordanairres Quartet. He had many talents, but was well known for his love of cooking for others, especially his homemade rolls and cinnamon rolls. He loved gardening and sharing with everyone.
 He wore many hats in his community. He was a school board member, a founding member of the Festival of Leaves, a founding member of the Bland County Pastorial Association, and the Bland County Fair Committee, to name a few. Pastor Paul was an encourager, a supporter, and a friend. He knew the power of prayer, the love of the Lord and touched many lives on his journey on this Earth. He will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 35 years, Edith Dye Looney; his son & daughter-in-law, Jordon & Rachel Looney; his daughters & son-in-law,  Amber Gibson and Sara Beth & Dakotah Crouse; his brother & sister-in-law, Steve (“Bubba”) and Kim Looney; his grandchildren, Dalton Gibson, Cade Crouse, Chloe Looney, Chase Crouse and Elisha Looney; his mother-in-law, whom he loved dearly, Callie “Maxine” Taylor; his nieces & nephews, Heather, Jessica, Stephanie, Melissa, Junior, Chuck, Tracey, Krystal, Blake, Krista, Crystal, Callie, Amber and Ashley; his “in-laws”, Dreama & Terry, Pete & Anita, Cindy & Danny and Jimmy & Teresa;  a special friend, “Che Che” Pauley; his special dog companion, “Maxie”; his church family and several extended family members and special friends, too many to list.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Bastian Union Church with Pastor “J.D.” Wall officiating. Burial will follow in the Bogle Cemetery.  Pastor Paul will lay in repose at the church on Monday, August 16, 2021 from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M., where the public is encouraged to come for viewing and to pay respects and the family will receive friends at the church from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Paul’s honor to the Bastian Union Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 152 Bastian, VA, 24314.
