Johnny J. Ryder

Johnny J. Ryder, 62, of Martinsville, Virginia passed away August 24,2021 at SOVAH Martinsville. He was born August 18,1959 in Martinsville to the late Jimmy I. Ryder and Dorothy Smallwood Ryder. He owned and operated his own floor covering business, Ryder’s Flooring for over 42 years, where he taught the flooring trade to many others. He really enjoyed working on his 1935 Chevrolet hotrod that he built in remembrance of the one that he helped build with his Uncle Doug Ryder, (The Untouchable 1935), spending time with his family, playing guitar, and he loved his family deeply.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Nicole “Nikki” Martin and her mother, Lisa Faye Martin.

He is survived by son, Waylon Ryder; step-sons, Jimmy Griffin, Chris Martin and Jeffery Martin; step-daughter, Tiffany Owen; grandson, Branson J. Ryder; sisters, Julia Ratcliffe and Janet Ryder; brothers, Jim Ryder and Buster Fritter; and ten grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at the home of Johnny Ryder, 325 Friendly Church Road, Martinsville at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021.
