Charles Boyd Kiser
Charlie Boyd Kiser, 86, of Salem, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.
Charlie grew up in Salem and served in the US Army in Korea during the Korean War. After the war, he became a beautician and owned and operated Style City Beauty Salon in Waynesboro, Virginia, for 30 years. Charlie was an avid golfer whose best friends were his golfing buddies. He spent as much time as possible gardening and making lawns look like Augusta National. He loved all of the brothers and sisters and worshiped at the Glen Allen Church of Christ in Glen Allen, Virginia, when visiting his daughter and son-in-law in the Richmond area.
Charlie was an unforgettable character who had a gift for making others feel special. He never had an unkind word to say about anyone. He loved making people laugh and kept his sense of humor all the way to the end. One of his many famous sayings was, “If I don’t see you again here, I’ll see you on the other side”. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him!
Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Burney Burleston Kiser; his mother, Kathleen Mason Kiser; his three sisters, Irene Parsons, Juanita Surface, and Ruby Caldwell; his brother, George Kiser; and his son, Boyd Franklin Kiser.
He is survived by his daughter, Sonya Kiser Samuel and his son-in-law, Kelly Layne Samuel, both of Ashland, Virginia; and his granddaughters, Megan Crouch of London, England, and Leah Kiser of Laredo, Texas. Also surviving Charlie are his beloved nieces and nephews. His nieces include Pam, Linda, and Debbie Caldwell, Celene Surface, Kristin and Shera Surface, and Blair Sherertz. His nephews include Charlie Surface, George Kiser, Jr., and Brayden Sherertz.
A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. The memorial service will begin at 2:30 p.m. with his minister, Tommy South, officiating. Periods of visitation will take place one hour prior to the service as well as continuing one hour following the service. At the visitation, please share a funny or a sweet memory of Charlie Boyd Kiser. Anyone who knew him has a story to tell!
