George "G.W." Helton, Jr.

George “G.W.” Helton, Jr., 90, of Fieldale, passed away on Wednesday , September 8, 2021 at his residence. He was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia on November 15, 1930 to the late George Washington Helton, Sr. and the late Etta Bowman Helton. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by nine sisters.

G.W. served his country in the United States Army and he was a member of Gospel Baptist Church. He retired from Bassett Furniture as Forman of the Glue Room.

G.W. is survived by his wife, Christine Helton; daughter, Nikki Adams; two sons, Sam Helton and John Helton; five grandchildren, Rebekah Grimes, Emily Helton, Andrew Helton, Kasey Adams and Bailey Adams; two great grandchildren, Lucy Grimes and Charlotte Helton and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a floating visitation from 1:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Bassett Funeral Service, the family will not be present. All other services will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gospel Baptist Church, 8208 Daniels Creek Road, Bassett, VA 24055.

Due to the governor’s requirements for COVID 19, a face covering is recommended and social distancing should be observed when visiting the funeral home.
