Ella Ruth Bishop

Ella “Ruth” Bishop, 91, of Vinton, went to be with the Lord on September 11, 2021. She was raised in Botetourt County and lived there until moving to Vinton. Ruth retired from Halmode Apparel after many years of service. Ruth spent her later years caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth loved to create beautiful jewelry, snowmen, and other crafty creations, that she shared with her family, friends, and community. Ruth loved to sing and spent many years singing in the Colling Baptist Church Choir, while also serving as the President of the ladies’ auxiliary. She spent her recent years attending Cloverdale Church of the Brethren. She was a member of the “Flying Fingers” ladies’ group and the “Red Hat Society”. Ruth never met a stranger; she was outgoing and loved traveling with her daughters and her cousin Teresa Smith. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Ruth will be missed by all that knew her.

Mrs. Bishop was preceded by her loving husband Lester Eugene “Gene” Bishop. She leaves to cherish her precious memories loving children, Larry (Tina) Bishop, Barbara (Les) Craig, and Debbie (Tom) Blevins; six grandchildren Larry (Jessica) Bishop, Tommy Bishop, Melissa (Thomas) Stinnett, Kristin (Josh) Saul, Adam (Kourtney) Craig, and Kendra Blevins; seven great-grandchildren Mya Bishop, Marley Bishop, Alexis Waldron, Laken Widener, Alaina and Clara Craig, and Levi Stinnett.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Snyder’s Nursing Home, Salem, VA.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Children’s Miracle Network 903 S. Jefferson Street Roanoke, VA 24011

A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2021 in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens by Pastors Mike Hogan and Jimmy Harris. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
