Leonard F. Whitlow
On September 14, 2021, at 12:54 PM, heaven gained another angel. Leonard F. Whitlow passed away peacefully, at Salem Veterans Administration Hospital in Salem Virginia.
Leonard was a life long resident of Henry County Virginia except for the time he spent in the United States Army 101st Airborne Division where he served as a Jump Master training other people to make numerous successful jumps that he also completed. Leonard was very proud of his service to his country.
Leonard was also an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Scuba Diver, and Lifetime member of the Bassett Rescue Squad. He had enjoyed serving his community as an officer of the squad and later on the squad's Board of Directors.
Leonard was born on June 4, t937 in Stanleytown, Virginia to John Frank Whitlow and Ella Smith Whitlow who have preceded him in death. Also preceding Leonard in death were five brothers, Kenneth Whitlow, Bobby Whitlow, Edward Whitlow, Dewey Whitlow, and David Whitlow, along with one sister, Elizabeth (Libby) Whitlow Lowery.
Leonard is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Loretta Whitlow of Arton, Virginia; Three sons, Timothy Whitlow, Gregory Whitlow, and Warren Whitlow all of Bassett, Virginia; One daughter and son-in-law Angela Whitlow Dillon and Robert Dillon of Bassett, Virginia and one step-son, Jeff Hollandsworth of Rocky Mount Virginia. Leonard is also survived by one granddaughter, Megan Whitlow of Ridgeway, Virginia; one grandson, David Dillon of Bassett, Virginia; One step-granddaughter Crystal Kiser of Bassett, Virginia and one step-grandson Christopher Dillon of Asheboro North Carolina. Additionally, Leonard is survived by numerous Great Grandchildren, Step-Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Stone Memorial Christian Church at 3030 Virginia Ave., Collinsville, Virginia 24078 on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 2 PM with visitation immediately prior at 1 PM.
