Rev. Virgil Warren "Scodge" Soots

January 1, 1934 - October 1, 2021

It is with deep sadness that we lost the Rev. Virgil Warren “Scodge” Soots, on October 1, 2021.

Virgil was born on January 1, 1934 on Tenth Street in Fieldale, Virginia. He was the only child of Cullom and Dovie Carter Soots, both of whom pre-deceased him in death. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Wilma Pugh Soots of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Martha Soots of Bassett, VA; his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Sonny Dykes of High Point, NC; two granddaughters, who were the lights of his life, Kasey Wingfield Kanfer and Kayla Soots; and three “greats”, Caleb Payne , Isaiah Perkins, and Macon Kanfer.

After proudly serving his country in the United States Army, Virgil returned home to work briefly for Fieldcrest Mills before answering his calling into the ministry. He retired in 1995, where he had been a Pastor in the United Methodist Conference for 30 years. He had the pleasure to serve many churches and congregations across southwestern Virginia and carried such fond memories of those years.

He was an athlete, a son, a loving husband, and the best father, grandfather, and great grandfather that any kid could ever hope for. We will miss him beyond words, but we know that he literally ran and was welcomed into God’s arms. We will see him again.

At his request, there will be a private graveside service only. Officiated by the Rev. Stanley Waddell. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Fieldale Recreation Center, P. O. Box 590, Fieldale, Virginia.

Wright Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family. Online condolences may be made at www.wrightfuneralservices.net
