James Lee Hamlin

James Lee Hamlin passed away on Friday October 8th at age 75 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 16, 1945, in Turlock, California to James Gray Hamlin and Freda Keys. He ran Track and Cross Country at Long Beach City College and served in the Army as a Green Beret during the Vietnam era. James was a registered citizen of the Cherokee Nation, and he earned an Associate’s Degree from American River College. He worked in various Information Technology roles during his career, but he was first and foremost a proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather and spent most of his time supporting the athletic, musical and other activities of his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Victoria Kay; daughter Dana Heston; grandsons Billy Heston, Steven Heston, Alan Heston and Granddaughters Jackie Heston, Adrienne Heston and Audrey Heston All of Cave Springs VA; Grandson Darby Heston and family (great-granddaughter Quincy) of Shippensburg PA and Son Jim Hamlin of Burnsville MN and Granddaughter Samantha Hamlin of Minneapolis MN

A celebration of James’ life will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 13, 2021 with Pastor Melton Johnson officiating. The burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
