Robert Eugene Carter

Robert Eugene Carter, 88 of Bedford, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on Saturday, November 19, 1932 in Bedford County, a son of the late Norman M. Carter and Ada Bradley Carter. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian B. Carter and a son, Donald Ray Carter.

He retired as Maintenance Director with Bedford County.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Carwile Carter; his sons, John Norman Carter & wife, Wanda, Ronald Eugene Carter & wife, Karen; Kenny Wood & wife, Kim; his grandchildren, Gregory Carter, Tonya Stoneberger, Josh Carter, Ryan Carter, Ruth Fitzgerald, Hannah & Emily Wood; his sister, Ruth Fitzgerald as well as great-grandchildren, Tuesday, Tyler, Matthew, Alyssa & Corbin.

A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Monday, October 18, 2021 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Vernon DeLong and Rev. Elwood Carwile officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 until 4 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
