Catherine Phlegar Henson

Catherine Phlegar Henson, 100, passed away peacefully at her son’s residence in Waynesboro, VA on October 18, 2021.
A native of Virginia she was the wife of the late David E. Matheney, Sr. and the daughter of Herman Marion Phlegar, Sr. and Nannie Carroll Phlegar, both deceased. Catherine was a strong Christian woman who was a member of New Life Christian Ministries and currently attended Fishersville United Methodist Church. She was known for being a great cook. Catherine enjoyed gospel music and singing.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who is survived by two sons, David E. Matheney, Jr. and Stephen W. Matheney; three grandchildren, Lori Huelsman and husband Brian, Jeremiah Preston Matheney, and Heather Bass and husband Chris; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by five brothers; two sisters; and her daughter in law, Freida Matheney.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 22, 2021 in Sherwood Memorial Park with Pastor Gary Alls officiating.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Waynesboro, VA.
