Reed Stone Moore

April 16, 1937 - October 19, 2021

Reed Stone Moore, age 84, of 1208 Sam Lions Trail, affectionately known by many as “Uncle Reed,” died peacefully at his home on October 19, 2021. Reed was born in Martinsville on April 16, 1937. He was the son of the late Henry Grady Moore, Sr. and the late Hester Stone Moore and brother to the late Henry Grady Moore, Jr.

He was educated in the Martinsville City schools and Randolph Macon College where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. After college, he served in the 2174th United States Army reserve for six years. After his military service, Reed joined his father and brother in the family business, Service Printing Company, where they worked together for many years.

He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville where he served as a Deacon and Trustee. Reed also served on various community boards including the Human Kind Organization of Lynchburg and Oakwood Cemetery of Martinsville.

Reed loved his family and always made a great effort to be a part of their lives. Reed loved to travel and had many fond memories of Aruba, Gatlinburg, and Ocean Isle Beach; however, Reed’s favorite place was Martinsville, a town full of friends and family who loved him. Reed was a friend to everyone and met everyone with a smile. He will be missed.

Reed is survived by sister-in-law Adelia Moore Smith, nephews Henry Grady Moore III (Nancy) and Curtis Weaver Moore (Gwen), and niece Hester Moore Cripe (Wayne) as well as great nieces and nephews Henry Grady Moore IV (Elizabeth), Hilary Frances Moore (Margot), Kristin Nicole Moore (Kris), Reed Douglas Moore, and Nathaniel Robert Cripe along with 4 great, great nephews. Also surviving is a special friend, Warren Wayne Holdren of Roanoke, Virginia.

A visitation will take place at the family home on Sam Lions Trail on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Dwight Christenbury officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville, VA or the SPCA of Martinsville-Henry County.
