Whorten Bane Bowyer
Whorten Bane Bowyer, 67, of Goode, Virginia passed away at his home on Thursday evening, October 21, 2021. He was born on March 5, 1954 in Bristol, Virginia. Bane is preceded in death by his mother, Elinor S. Wilson and his father, Charles R. Bowyer.
He was the proud owner and operator of Bowyer's Repair Service. He never knew a stranger, and always had a smile and a kind word to those he met. He was a hard worker all his life despite the illnesses he faced in his later years. He was headstrong and hard-willed, and loved his family dearly. The greatest joy of Bane's life was spending time with his grandsons. He loved to tell stories, and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. He was a member of Otterville United Methodist Church.
Bane is survived by his loving and devoted wife of forty three years, Janet Ware Bowyer; his daughter Amanda Lynch and husband, Cline, his grandsons Peyton Johnson and Cole Lynch; son, Peter Bane Bowyer; his step father who raised him, Sherman L. Wilson of Bedford; his siblings, Faye B. Cumbee, Austin L. Wilson (Valerie), Geri W. Blackburn (Mark), Innocent W. Moss (Ricky), Sheldon F. Wilson (Carey) as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and good friend Roger Farris.
Memorial contributions in Bane's honor may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Visitation will take place from 2 until 4 PM on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford and a funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, October 25, 2021 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Mark Wilkerson officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
