Vernon G. "Pappy" Stanley

Vernon G. “Pappy” Stanley, 82, of Bassett, died Sunday, October 24, 2021 at Sovah Health – Martinsville.  He was born in Modoc, Indiana on April 27, 1939 to the late Wilson Stanley and the late Doris Hiatt Stanley.  He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Allen Short; brother, William Stanley and sister, Mabel Lou Brumley.
He was best known for his love of animal swap meets having gone to Southern States, Martinsville, Danville, Hillsville, Weyers Cave, Virginia and Eden, North Carolina for many years.  He was a U. S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Patricia Crigler Stanley; combined children, Jerry Stanley, Chris Short and Traci Morris; 14 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren and his hound dog, Lady.
At his request, there will not be a service.  The family will have a celebration of his life at a later date in Indiana.
